COMMUNITY MEMBERS OF ZEMU ELECTORAL URGED TO BE PATRIOTIC-NCCE

The Akatsi North District Director of NCCE, Madam Evelyn Klokpodzi has asked community members of Avevi and Zemu in the Zemu Electoral of the Volta region to eschew laziness, self-centeredness, and undaunted attitudes towards their communities and be patriotic citizens in other to build a vibrant nation. Madam Klokpodzi made the call when she addressed two separate communities during an outreach programme to sensitise the masses on the need to exhibit love and commitment towards their community.

She explained that the only way the people can realise change in their communities is when community members both old and young acknowledge that change can only emanate from themselves. The Akatsi North Director urged the members of both communities to get involved in communal work and self-help projects to contribute to the wellbeing of their communities.

Madam Klokpodzi also used the opportunity to educate the citizenry to be bold and report acts of corrupt practices or crime either to the Police, EOCO, Legal Aid, CHRAJ or the Special Prosecutor’s Office. She cited Act 720, the Whistle Blowers Act as the law backing them.

She urged the people to honour their tax obligations to the state because without taxes, the developed Ghana we want to see would be a figment of our own imagination. Further, Madam Klokpodzi appealed to her audience to desist from indiscriminate felling of trees for fuel (firewood and Charcoal) and guard against open defecation. She therefore called on community members to safeguard for posterity as well as to prevent famine and drought.

In attendance were traditional leaders including Torgbui Adelekpui II, Torgbui Kotomla III, Mama Nyawunu II, Torgbui Kobena III, Torgbui Agedzi II and Regent Sokpo all of Avevi and Zemu communities respectively. Also present were the District Chief Executive of Akatsi North, Hon Dr. Princes Sodoke Amuzu and Officials from the District Assembly.
