The Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) in collaboration with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), African Parliamentarians Network Against Corruption (APNAC) and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has launched the African Union Against Corruption in Accra. The event was on the theme; “Winning The Fight Against Corruption: A Sustainable Path To Africa’s Transformation”.
In attendance were students from the Ghana Lebanon Islamic Secondary School (GLISS), pupils from St. Augustus Preparatory School, Kaneshie West One Basic School, and Immanuel Presby School and other civil society organizations. The Chairman for the occasion Mr. Joe Whittal, Commissioner of CHRAJ, commended the GII and the AU on their commitment to fighting corruption. He asked participants to ponder on “How Ghana can win the fight against corruption”? Mr. Whittal called on everyone's well-meaning Ghanaian to help win the fight against corruption.
The Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations at the NCCE, Mr. Samuel Asare Akuamoah, acknowledged the students and pupils gathered at the event describing them as the most important guests. He said the youth of today lack knowledge on corruption hence the need for policymakers and educators to target and educate them
The special guest Mr. Samuel Abu Jinapor, Deputy Chief of Staff at the Presidency urged all to help in winning the fight against corruption and stated that the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, and his team cannot fight corruption alone and needs the involvement of every citizen. He officially launched the African Union Day Against Corruption.
