NCCE ENGAGES THE GHANA ARMED FORCES

The NCCE’s Constitution Week team has visited the Ghana Armed Forces at Burma Camp, Accra to engage military personnel on the relevance of the 1992 Constitution and other governance related matters. This year the Commission’s Constitution Week celebration   is focusing   on Transparency, Public Accountability and rule of law. The week will also highlight on the country’s 25 years of uninterrupted constitutional rule under the fourth Republic.

The Director of Public Relations at the Ghana Armed Forces Col. Aggrey Quarshie was elated to welcome the NCCE at the Burma Hall. He encouraged the NCCE to frequently engage the military to be aware of their Constitutional rights and responsibilities. He entreated military personnel present to adhere to the discussions to rekindle civic consciousness among the force.

The Chairman of NCCE, Ms. Josephine Nkrumah spoke on the Commission’s 2018 theme “Our Nation, our Heritage: Consolidating our democratic gains. She said citizens have gained from Ghana’s Constitutional rule and asked the steps that citizens are taking to protect our democracy. Touching on the sub theme, “Transparency and Accountability” she explained that the theme seeks to promote good governance. She called on Public Servants to be transparent in their line of work and accountable. Ms. Nkrumah cited a recent research conducted by the NCCE which ranked the military as the agency most transparent and accountable institution in Ghana.

She was emphatic that lack of transparency and accountability undermines every democratic economy. She urged all to strive to uphold public accountability and transparency.

Col. Aggrey Quarshie in a closing submission advised all to be patriotic to make Ghana a better nation.
